Back in the day, as long as our dogs were being fed with any old dog food, we thought they were fine. However because of recent research, it is now widely known that dogs also suffer from some of the ailments commonly attributed to growing old. Unfortunately, dogs cannot naturally produce all the nutrients that their bodies need, and they have to rely on us to provide them quality care. We can do this by augmenting their diet with nutritional supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin for dogs.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin help dogs fight osteoarthritis and joint pains. These vitamins also help by providing the nutrients necessary to promote the production of new cartilage. Chondroitin specifically attacks the enzymes that break down canine cartilage. Dogs can stay on both supplements indefinitely, especially as they are getting on in their years. These are but a few of the nutrients necessary for our pets to live long, healthy lives.
How to put on a Pet Medical Collar
Pet Medical Collars are those weird funnel collars used for keeping your dog from licking at a wound. Vets usually request you keep on on for several days after a dog surgery or if your dog has been licking hot spots.
You can take the collar off when feeding your dog or to give them an all natural dog treat, but be sure to keep an eye on them so that they don’t take advantage of the freedom and lick those wounds.
The History and Care of the Pug
Pugs are one of the most lovable and comical of all the dog breeds. They are also one of the oldest breeds.
And like all dogs…. pugs love bully sticks
Warning! PetSmart Dog Treats Recall
PetSmart has announced a recall of 7 dog biscuit products containing peanut butter paste. The recall includes products under the Great Choice brand name which may have been contaminated with Salmonella. There have not been any cases involving pets to date but Petsmart is taking precautionary measures in light of the recent salmonella typhimurium outbreak that has sickened 486 people and killed six.
The outbreak has been traced products manufactured by the Peanut Corp. of America in its Blakely, Georgia, plant.
Although the risk to pets in minimal, Salmonella can potentially be found on the surface of dog biscuits and be a danger to humans that handle the biscuits. Children should always wash their hands when handling dog bones.

A game you should NEVER play with your dog
I spotted this video on the internet and felt it was important to tell you why you should never play the balloon game with your dogs. I know it looks all cute and fun but the fact is rubber balloons can be deadly if swallowed.
There are much better ways to keep your pups entertained. Give them safe dog toys to play with, and bully sticks to keep them healthy and occupied.

Dog Socialization
Bringing home a new puppy can be very exciting for every member of the family, however it can be a bit TOO exciting for the puppy. So when is the proper time to introduce your new puppy to your friends and the neighborhood?
Give your puppy a few days to relax and feel at home, don’t over stimulate him with too much activity or attention. Once your puppy has gotten use to his new environment, then you may want to take him out and introduce him to other dogs in the neighborhood.
It is very important your puppy is properly socialized at this young age.
Don’t overdo it and be sure to reward your puppy with a nice dog bone for his good behavior.

Submissive Urination in Dogs
I realize this is probably not your favorite topic of conversation, however for many dog owners it is a problem.
There are a lot of reasons for submissive urination in dogs, including some valid medical reasons. If your dog has suddenly started urinating when scolded, excited or when introduced to new people or pets, you should first check with your vet to insure there is not a medical problem.
Puppies and older dogs can sometimes have trouble controlling their bladders.
Dogs, like humans can be very sensitive and when frightened or excited can have an accidental leaking episode. Try changing your training and correcting style to a more positive training method, using a system of all natural dog treats rewards for positive behavior and avoid scolding your dog.
If your dog feels insecure or doesn’t recognize you as the Alpha human, then he can become overly submissive and frightened when confronted with new people, or situations.

Cutting down on Dog Obesity
Has your lovable pooch been packing on the pounds? Dog obesity can be a serious health hazard leading to heart disease, diabetes and arthritis.
Choose smaller portions of a healthy dog food that has a meat protein source as it’s main ingredient, offer only a limited number of all natural dog treats and start an exercise program for your obese pet. Remember that you need to start off slow when beginning a new routine for your couch potato canine.
