Submissive Urination in Dogs

I realize this is probably not your favorite topic of conversation, however for many dog owners it is a problem.

There are a lot of reasons for submissive urination in dogs, including some valid medical reasons. If your dog has suddenly started urinating when scolded, excited or when introduced to new people or pets, you should first check with your vet to insure there is not a medical problem.

Puppies and older dogs can sometimes have trouble controlling their bladders.

Dogs, like humans can be very sensitive and when frightened or excited can have an accidental leaking episode. Try changing your training and correcting style to a more positive training method, using a system of all natural dog treats rewards for positive behavior and avoid scolding your dog.

If your dog feels insecure or doesn’t recognize you as the Alpha human, then he can become overly submissive and frightened when confronted with new people, or situations.

Cutting down on Dog Obesity

Has your lovable pooch been packing on the pounds? Dog obesity can be a serious health hazard leading to heart disease, diabetes and arthritis.

Choose smaller portions of a healthy dog food that has a meat protein source as it’s main ingredient, offer only a limited number of all natural dog treats and start an exercise program for your obese pet. Remember that you need to start off slow when beginning a new routine for your couch potato canine.

Teaching your dog about stairs…

Going up and down stairs with an excited dog can be a very dangerous situation. Your dog needs to know the rules when it comes to stairs.

  • Never let your dog go first - The Alpha Dog (human) always goes first on stairs and through doorways. If your dog goes first, he will be under the mistaken impression that he is the Leader.
  • It’s easy for a dog to pull you down or up the stairs, causing injury
  • Never let your dog run up or down the stairs

Watch this short video to learn how to approach stairs with your dog and of course remember to reward him with an all natural dog treat when he gets it right.

What happens during a Dog Cancer Biopsy?

Dr Damien Dressler, Dog Cancer Specialist shows us exactly what happens when his own dog goes in for a cancer biopsy.

I’m hoping Bjorn’s test come back negative and he’s able to return to chomping on bully sticks and enjoy many more years with Dr. Dressler.

Teaching your Puppies not to bite

Puppies love to chew and will naturally love to chew on you. Teaching your puppy that even though you are delicious, you are not a giant bully stick can be a difficult task and requires diligence and repetition.

The technique is simple and is modeled after normal puppy behaviors.
