It’s that time of year again… The time when sleepy and cranky skunks begin invading your dog’s territory. Skunk spray can be deadly to small dogs so keep on the look out.
If you dog does get skunked you’ll need this recipe to get rid of the smell.
1 Quart Hydrogen Peroxide (3%)
1/4 cup of Baking Soda
1-2 Teaspoons of liquid Soap
It may take more than a few washings but the recipe does work
A perfect Top Knot for your Dog
Getting a top knot to stay in when your pooch is busy trying to get it out can be a challenge but try the double band trick shown in this quick video to finally get that top knot looking pretty and the bow staying put.
Once you have your perfect top know be sure to offer your puppy beauty queen her dog treat reward.
Are you feeding your Dog…Poison?
It’s seems like every month there is a new Pet Food Scare.. Since last fall the top scare has been Peanut Butter.
I’m very concerned that it has taken the FDA literally months to recall some of these products and wonder how many pets and humans have needlessly been ill because of the FDA’s failure.
To their credit they now have the following widget that will update any new recalls.
My advice is for dog owners to stop feeding anything with peanut butter and only feed your pooch all natural dog treats.
Removing Matted Fur from your dog
Here’s something from my “you learn something new everyday file”.
I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent trying to safely remove matted fur from my Shih Tzu. I’ve trying to untangle them with a comb, brushing them and I’ve even resorted to scissors, but when I saw this Dr. Lauren video I got one of those “well duh” moments.
Enjoy the video … I’m off to remove some matted fur…
PS: Don’t forget to him your pooch a nice bully stick treat after you finish the grooming:-)

How to put on a Pet Medical Collar
Pet Medical Collars are those weird funnel collars used for keeping your dog from licking at a wound. Vets usually request you keep on on for several days after a dog surgery or if your dog has been licking hot spots.
You can take the collar off when feeding your dog or to give them an all natural dog treat, but be sure to keep an eye on them so that they don’t take advantage of the freedom and lick those wounds.
A game you should NEVER play with your dog
I spotted this video on the internet and felt it was important to tell you why you should never play the balloon game with your dogs. I know it looks all cute and fun but the fact is rubber balloons can be deadly if swallowed.
There are much better ways to keep your pups entertained. Give them safe dog toys to play with, and bully sticks to keep them healthy and occupied.

The truth about Pet Therapy
I’m not sure what to say about this video… It’s a bit on the weird side but also full of good information about Pet therapy. A great way to explain it to your kids, so go grab some popcorn for you and the kids and a dog bone for the dog and enjoy.

Teaching your dog about stairs…
Going up and down stairs with an excited dog can be a very dangerous situation. Your dog needs to know the rules when it comes to stairs.
- Never let your dog go first - The Alpha Dog (human) always goes first on stairs and through doorways. If your dog goes first, he will be under the mistaken impression that he is the Leader.
- It’s easy for a dog to pull you down or up the stairs, causing injury
- Never let your dog run up or down the stairs
Watch this short video to learn how to approach stairs with your dog and of course remember to reward him with an all natural dog treat when he gets it right.

Teaching your Puppies not to bite
Puppies love to chew and will naturally love to chew on you. Teaching your puppy that even though you are delicious, you are not a giant bully stick can be a difficult task and requires diligence and repetition.
The technique is simple and is modeled after normal puppy behaviors.
