Holiday Pet Warning

Just a quick reminder …. Keep those Turkey scraps away from your dog. Load up on all natural dog treats, dog bones and bully sticks instead.

Too much poultry fat can be dangerous, especially to older dogs or those with pancreatitis.

An another reminder…. Skip the tinsel on the tree. Very dangerous for your pets if ingested.

Wishing a Safe and Healthy Holiday Season to you and your pets.

Dog Snacks can be Better

Dog Snacks can be BetterEven if you fill your pet’s food dish, he might still be hungry. Just as people need to eat to keep up their energy, dogs that are frisky and playful may also need to take some dog snacks between their meals. This will ensure that he gets enough fuel for his, and your, playtime.

Dogs that eat too much and exercise too little are also prone to obesity and all the health problems that the condition brings. That is why pets can also benefit from nutrition advice given by their veterinarians. Following a good health plan will ensure your pet lives and long and healthy life.

Things to know before you buy that cute little puppy….

Things to know before you buy that cute little puppy….

It happens to all of us…. we see that cute little face in the window of the pet store and immediately fall in love.  He’s so tiny and sweet and look at those big feet.  We watch him romp and when he “playfully” nips at our finger we are sure he’s the one for us.

Several months later when that cute “little” puppy is now 100 lbs of furniture shredding, romping stomping destructo dog, we realize that maybe this was not the right choice for your tiny apartment.   Or maybe, the tiny little puppy with the furry coat demands way more time grooming then you have hours in the day.

Then again,  it could be that cute face turned into a pit bull that keeps looking at your toddler like she’s lunch or could it be that your toddler keeps looking at that cute little chihuahua like he’s lunch.

Before deciding to share your life with a dog, take time to research the breed with the American Kennel Club.  There are certain tracts that are natural to certain breeds.  There are also some breeds that require more exercise, room to roam or extra grooming care.

Once you have decided on a breed that will match your lifestyle then be sure to ask the shop owner, breeder or current owner about the individual dogs personality, quirks, favorite all natural dog treats and food, temperament and whether they have been exposed to other dogs, cats or children.

When obtaining a dog from a shelter, be sure to ask for all the information available on the dog, including how he ended up at the shelter and what condition he was in when he got there.  Ask for any information on the breed and or breeds of the dog.

Adding a new pet to your family should be a lifetime commitment and care should be taken to best insure your dog will become a happy member of your family.

Training with Dog Treats

“A dog that is trained to obey your commands will be a pleasant companion and a pleasure for everyone to be around”…. That is how this video starts out and that should be one of the first things every dog owner learns.

Training your pet to obey basic commands is your first responsibility as a pet owner, and as this video shows you, it’s starts with having a ready supply of all natural dog treats.

It really is a simple, easy process when you use the positive training methods shown here. Using healthy treats like dog bones and bully sticks is a great way to get and keep your dog’s attention.

“Training your dog is an important part of your relationship with your pet and it is not something to be taken lightly. If you want your dog to be an enjoyable companion, you must take the time to train him properly”.

Remember to use positive reinforcement and your dog will quickly and happily learn to obey your commands.

Dogs need to stay healthy, too. The average life span of a dog is 10 to 12 years. However, many dogs die before they are 6-years old. These early deaths might be due to unhealthy diets.

That is why it is important to check what your pets eat. If possible, organic dog treats are healthier than ordinary salt-laden snacks. They are chemical and pesticide free, making them the snack of choice.

It never fails. Two weeks after I take my Shih Tzu for a haircut and bath, he gets an ear infection. My Vet gave me some drops to put in his ear to keep them dry, but they irratate his ears.

In this video, Dr Andrew Jones shows you several Natural Methods you can use to treat your dogs ear infections with the help of his faithful pet, Louis. I think Louis deserves a few all natural dog treats, don’t you?

Dog Costume

It is quickly approaching Halloween time, where parents get excited to not only dress their children up and parade them around town, but also their pets. The statistics show that one in ten parents are now dressing up their pet as well as their kids. This relates to a stunning 160 million dogs and cats that end up in those embarrassing costumes (or at least the dogs and cats think so). Not only are they dressed up, but in many cases they are marched around in parades and brought to costume parties to show off their best looks.

Animal behaviorists say that these types of bonding events between humans and their animals help build stronger bonds. Not only do these types of events give families bonding time together, but they also help the pets to become more socialized.

This year’s favorite costumes are going to be a bumble bee equipped with a stinger, a cow, and a mail man which is sporting a “Mutt Mail” logo. Also, for cats there is going to be devil, witch, pumpkin, and of course a mouse costume.

The only disadvantage for the pets in all of this excitement is that they do not get to eat candy afterwards. However, it doesn’t mean that after all this trick or treating that they don’t deserve to get some natural bully sticks !
