Are you feeding your Dog…Poison?
It’s seems like every month there is a new Pet Food Scare.. Since last fall the top scare has been Peanut Butter.
I’m very concerned that it has taken the FDA literally months to recall some of these products and wonder how many pets and humans have needlessly been ill because of the FDA’s failure.
To their credit they now have the following widget that will update any new recalls.
My advice is for dog owners to stop feeding anything with peanut butter and only feed your pooch all natural dog treats.
Back in the day, as long as our dogs were being fed with any old dog food, we thought they were fine. However because of recent research, it is now widely known that dogs also suffer from some of the ailments commonly attributed to growing old. Unfortunately, dogs cannot naturally produce all the nutrients that their bodies need, and they have to rely on us to provide them quality care. We can do this by augmenting their diet with nutritional supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin for dogs.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin help dogs fight osteoarthritis and joint pains. These vitamins also help by providing the nutrients necessary to promote the production of new cartilage. Chondroitin specifically attacks the enzymes that break down canine cartilage. Dogs can stay on both supplements indefinitely, especially as they are getting on in their years. These are but a few of the nutrients necessary for our pets to live long, healthy lives.
Warning! PetSmart Dog Treats Recall
PetSmart has announced a recall of 7 dog biscuit products containing peanut butter paste. The recall includes products under the Great Choice brand name which may have been contaminated with Salmonella. There have not been any cases involving pets to date but Petsmart is taking precautionary measures in light of the recent salmonella typhimurium outbreak that has sickened 486 people and killed six.
The outbreak has been traced products manufactured by the Peanut Corp. of America in its Blakely, Georgia, plant.
Although the risk to pets in minimal, Salmonella can potentially be found on the surface of dog biscuits and be a danger to humans that handle the biscuits. Children should always wash their hands when handling dog bones.

Many dog treats are full of chemicals and empty carbs. If you want your dog treats healthy, we suggest making sure your buy good dog food or even make your dog treats yourself. When shopping for your dog treats, it is important to read the labels carefully. You read the labels of the food that you buy for your family, why shouldn’t you do the same for your dog?
The best ratio of nutrients in your pet food should be: 40% meat, 50% veggies, and 10% carbohydrates. Meat protein sources should make up the bulk of the dog food, and they should be easy to digest. Chicken parts such as chicken bones, beaks and feet are often sneaked in by unscrupulous manufacturers. You may end up buying a product that has more fillers than real meat.

Dogs sure love to beg for treats. But even the vet advises not feeding them scraps from your table. And did you know that some dog treats can be toxic? Here is a list of foods that the ASPCA says that you should never feed your dog.
*Avocado
*Almonds
*Anise oil
